in the same cohort as the music program at uc berkley and we've been saying for 4 years, we need to play music. so we finally made it happen. so, rita lindall, and then masuro koga. mas and i have been playing together for a very long time, so much so that we wore the same shirt without having to talk to each other about it. mas is in high demand both as a teacher and as a session side man, having played with everybody from anthony brown's asian american orchestra to wane wallace's newest cd. who haven't you played with lately? yeah, he's played with everybody. you can find mas on a lot of different cd's from the local jazz community. this song we're going to do is an air called the brown-haired girl. when i was recording, when i was fortunate to be able to record bridge across the blue, i was telling them i got this air, i got it off the chieftan's album, i'm going to do it on the electric base. he looked at me and said, you're nuts. people are going to go crazy but if you can do it, i'll help you. he gave me this book of airs and went, figure it out, figure it out. it never quite jelled on t

they were part of uc research colony. funding for the research dried up recently and 3 animals, well they needed a new home. oakland zoo told uc they would be happy to adopt them. zoo said it will keep the younger trio separate from elderly pair already at the zo zoo. worried about potential fighting because of the age difference. we'll see if they get adjusted. >> unusual sight. snow in the holy land. biggest snow in 20 years. lots of people set out to enjoy it with snow bull fights. as you can see a lot of photographs. >>> check this out. really stunning site in australia. towering red wave traveling more than 60 miles an hour. it is in fact rust colored sand caught up with ocean water. no sear us damage was reported but it was certainly dramatic and spectacular. >> let's get one last check on what's going to happen around here. cold tonight. zapped the. >> yes. we got rid of the snow from the santa cruz mountains and down around the southern end of monteray county where we saw several inches of snow. now live doppler 7 hd seeing a quiet scene but the chilly will be set

budget include language preventing the uc and csu systems from raising tuition for at least seven years. >> so as we noted perhaps the bigger winner in all of this new budget may be the public schools. but there's a catch. not every school is getting an equal slice of the pie. the governor even pointed to bay area communities to illustrate why he's doing this. let's bring in nbc's arturo santiago who joins us in piedmont. one of the areas governor brown mentioned you're there. one of the areas governor brown mentioned by name today, correct? >> that's correct. when talking about new funding formula for k through 12 schools, the governor mentioned a number of high and low income areas. specifically richmond and piedmont were mentioned. we talked to administrators in both districts. >> at perry's elementary school in the west contra costa unified school district, 100% of the students are on the free or reduce lunch program, the kind of school governor brown is focusing on with his changes in proposed funding. >> growing up in compton or richmond is not like it is to grow up in los gatos o
